About Ayurveda

Dear Seeker of Wellbeing,

Ayurveda is God’s own medicine that the ancient Indian sages received in their elevated consciousness during intuitive meditation. Ayurveda as a system of knowledge and method of healing is considered as eternal, and as such has no start date. Historically speaking, Ayurveda’s transformative presence and capacity to influence mind-body-spirit can be traced back 10,000 years.

What is interesting is that in the twenty first century, Ayurveda is still alive, dynamic, relevant, and current; and is in fact gathering momentum as world medicine. As medicine that heals consciousness, many regard Ayurveda as cutting edge science. Ayurveda remains very much the people’s choice, and its global spread is indicative of a people’s desire to return to wellbeing via nature. Today, Ayurvedic colleges, hospitals, clinics, and health and beauty spas are opening in every major country of this world, and more and more people are choosing to heal the Spirits’ way.

Ayurvedic principles were established by the same great seers and sages who gave the world India’s original systems of Yoga, meditation, Chakras, and Kundalini. Crafted through spiritual intent, Ayurveda firmly contends that we all are non physical beings having a physical experience in a physical body. Any and all healing is therefore the expression of our own Spirit or Source called Higher Self or Spirit.

Ayurveda should not be confused as merely another natural system of “fighting” disease. Eschewing disease based mind set; Ayurveda promotes vigorous and joyful health consciousness. Ayurveda does this by asking us to choose health promoting measures such as consuming a pure, fresh, cooked diet and living by daily, nightly, and seasonal rituals or routines in our day to day life. Ayurveda also offers mind - body - spirit rejuvenation and immunity enhancement through transformative bio-therapies called Panchakarma. Intake of natural plant based supplements that have been tried and tested over centuries; Yoga, Meditation, mantras, color and gem therapy, are other means by which Ayurveda promotes balance, not only within the different realms of the individual (mind-body-spirit) but also between the individual and his or her unique environment (physical, social, spiritual, cultural, etc).

Spiritual counseling and life coaching is a main focusin Ayurveda. Ayurveda emphasizes the fact that we are all powerful Self healing Spirit entities and not merely the overwhelmed mind and decaying bodies that we identify ourselves to be. When we think wellness we become wellness. When we think expansion, we create expansion. When we think joy we become joy.

Optimistic, truth seeking, exuberant and life celebrating Ayurvedic medicine will leave you revitalized, and reconnected with your Source. Thanks to Ayurveda, health will no longer remain a farcical product of technology with deadly side effects; but become a real, achievable, and realistic option courtesy the activation of your inner Self healing power.

The Ayurveda sages teach conscious living through which you can align your inner universe (microcosm) with the external universe (macrocosm). Ayurveda teaches respect of nature and her eternal laws. Ayurveda balances and rejuvenates, and above all empowers our own natural processes of immunity.

Today’s physicians tend to ignore individuality. They often look at people as “livers” or “lungs” and neglect the being which hosts that liver or lung. Ayurveda attempts to harmonize the body-mind-spirit complex by starting with the body which is relatively stable. Balance of the mind and spirit comes more easily once the body has been made firm and healthy.

Ayurveda is the product of a civilization which is deeply rooted in Mother Nature. The seers knew that all of Nature is part of the individual, since we are all created from, exist in, and return to nature. All of us have a Mother in Nature, and only she can lead us home.

The invitation is to heal your whole Being

Ayurveda treats the whole person; comprising of spirit, mind, and body. Ayurveda’s holistic approach is in serious contrast to mainstream medicine where one is often no more than one’s ailing lung or peaking lipid profile. So Pratichi helps with wellness for not  just a specific ailment with its typical symptoms, but works towards healing the whole person, with emphasis on enhancing daily life attributes such as quality of ingested food, rhythm of daily and seasonal living, and nature of thoughts, emotions and relationships with other beings.

With this holistic approach disease can be prevented, immunity can be nurtured and our overall wellbeing index is seriously enhanced through the practice of Ayurvedically determined, guided and supported life choices. This is why Pratichi says, “Health is not the source of wellbeing; it is our wellbeing that is the source of our health.”

Ayurveda contends that the human being has a physical body made up of food; an energy body comprising of bio forces that regulate everything called Doshas; an emotional-mental body; an intellectual body and even a body comprising of wisdom which pertains to the genetic information coded deep within each cell. Any of these bodies can suffer imbalance and spawn disease.

The contemporary one size fits all scenarios appear hasty and too cookie cutter like in the face of Ayurveda’s highly individualized approach. This is why Pratichi will looks at you in entirety and evaluate all your bodies and gage how they exist in the environment and what relationship they have with the environment (beneficial or harmful) and only then prescribes a food, an herb, a body therapy or even an exercise.

According to Ayurveda, balance awaits us at the opposite end of a spectrum of choices wherein, one end called “disease and suffering” is reached typically after accomplishing one long deranged trip of misguided living comprising of irresponsible choices in terms of food, lifestyle, and negative thoughts. By the same logic, balance in the form of “health  and joy” awaits us, when we mindfully reclaim the quality of our life and live consciously and positively from one moment to the next.

Ayurveda’s Invitation to the Wise

Ayurveda teaches that our body, composed of matter is by its very nature fragile, impermanent, and verily a house of distress and disease, and in any given moment, always vulnerable to death.  Any one at any time can become a victim to any disease and often the body collapses before the soul’s work is finished, or even before the allotted time is up. Such is the collapsing, shuddering, weak, tentative, and ephemeral nature of the human body.  This is why we humans pray for full and healthy life. According to Ayurveda, it is natural for humans to crave for happiness and bodily comfort, and in the same manner, it is quite natural for humans to shun pain of any kind.

Ancient Ayurvedic Sage Charaka writes that although activities of all creatures are directed intuitively towards happiness, the good and bad course they adopt depends upon the knowledge and ignorance (of each creature) respectively.

Definitely, to live and live fully and happily is the most natural instinct of any living thing. This is what we dream about, and this is what we pray for.  Scratch the surface of any heart, and we find hidden deep within, the desire to have health, possess vitality and longevity. This is why even the mere thought of a chronic or fatal illness strikes such terror in our heart. An extra growth, some strange symptom gives us sleepless nights. When we see a physically or mentally unfortunate person, we feel numb and nervous at the same time, and we quickly shift our eyes away, trying to suppress our own inner fears.

This urge to prolong life, avoid bodily harm or injury, and live life ‘fully’ has been acknowledged by all Indian scriptures and statements of authority. This ‘lust for life’ or jijivisha  is intrinsic to the journey towards Moksha or Self Realization, or else the game plan would fail. All creatures, big or small, wish to live and live happily.

However, all creatures under the same sun, do not meet the same fate. It is the sum total of intelligence that any creature possesses in a given moment that decides the course of action the creature will embark upon (in that moment), and more importantly it is with the consequences of such action (the law of karma is eternally operating), that the creature will have to live with. Based upon the given intellect, Charaka has categorized humans into the wise and the ordinary.

Sage Charaka says that one should not use the food articles from either attachment or ignorance; rather, he should use the wholesome one (food item) after examination (through analysis) because the body is a product of food. Thus, according to Ayurveda, those who blindly seek to satisfy the senses, and run to please every craving, run hither and thither to satisfy every impulse, and do what it takes, to feed each and every mental frenzy, suffer, sooner or later. One may be born with good health (and even good genes), but slow and steady abuse of the body through consistent intake of detrimental foods, and indulgence in self destructive mental and social thoughts and activities results in slow and steady depletion of the good health. It is only a matter of time.

No amount of health supplements, visits to the spa, or taking vacations will restore what is depleted and destroyed on a daily basis. It is the moment to moment decisions, which we make under the spell of our own attachments and aversions that take a heavier toll. This explains why Ayurveda teaches an entire lifestyle that promotes health. Ayurvedic path is not a one to three month intensive. There are no ‘off days’ in Ayurveda, and no points to count, and no calories to burn. Ayurvedic wisdom is an unfolding of wisdom as a continuous ‘way of life’.

Ayurveda is an everyday application of intelligence, a spiritual and inner decision to reconnect with the flow of life, a resolution to make decisions after due consideration, a move to reclaim our right to think for ourselves, and a celebration of the fact that our higher Self will always guide us ‘wisely’ in any given moment – if we so decide. Ayurveda will guide us to our cherished goal - a healthy, happy, full life.

Since the Vedic Indians understood and appreciated the fact that leading a balanced, disciplined life, eating in moderation, and adopting an ethically and morally superior code of conduct, keeps the body and mind relatively free of disease, the specialized branch of the Vedas – Ayurveda, was keenly and systematically developed by ancient sages and saints to benefit one and all. To achieve the goal of health and a pain free life, Ayurveda is necessary to the human being. Without the guidance of Ayurveda, there is a chance that human souls may get lost en-route.

Return to Mother Nature

Ayurveda is the ancient and traditional system of natural healing from India. Ayurveda is based upon remembering, reconnecting and celebrating the eternal harmony and sacred connection between man and nature. The followers of Ayurveda begin to discover deep nurturance ever available in nature, and gradually become one with the great cycle and rhythm of nature. Ayurvedic principles are nature’s own principles. Ayurveda, as a medical science is always in compliance with the laws of nature.

Ayurvedic medicine is totally natural, eco-friendly, non-harmful, and utilizes 100% recyclable, bio-degradable, ‘life friendly’ ingredients as its tools for healing. Ayurveda awakens within each one of us - the powers to self heal. Ayurveda teaches peace within the internal forces that regulate body and mind, and a ‘peaceful relationship’ with the external elements that compose our environment.

Ayurveda supports a non polluted clean and pure environment, and, deep respect for the natural web of co-dependence and co-respect between man and his environment. Ayurveda is indeed the medicine for this planet Vedika. Today, our Earth is ravaged by disease, mutilated by inner and outer war, spilling over with mistrust and confusions, toxins, addictions, and pollutants. Ayurveda restores the natural equilibrium between man and his environment; between all living creatures; and then within each one of us. Ayurveda cautions that we have to look after our environment if we are to stay happy and healthy.

Ayurvedic wisdom teaches us to live in harmony with Mother Nature (Prakriti) and meditate and reflect upon the interconnectedness of macrocosm (environment) and microcosm (living being) at every level of existence, from an ant to the human being. Ayurveda aids recognition of the fact that our universe and its timeless ingredients such as time, space, seasons, sun, moon, crops, herbs, and other creatures that populate it, affect us at all times, and play a significant role in either restricting or facilitating wellbeing.

Rejuvenation and true bio–recovery are not merely fanciful terms in Ayurveda but a reality that Ayurveda delivers daily all over the globe today through its marvelous ability to customize healing for each individual, choose healing agents from nature, and nurture and transform the body through revolutionary detoxifying and stabilizing body treatments called Panchakarma, that are always in sync with natural laws.

Health, is certainly not as complicated and contrived an effort as it is made out to be, provided we consciously decide to stay close to mother nature and not venture out too far, violating her intelligence and frame work of natural laws. That is why I will provide you with knowledge of nature and how to begin living close to nature and why this is more important than than popping a  pill.

Spirit's choice Ayurveda

Ayurveda reminds each one of us that we are perfectly healthy Spirits with our instruments – body and mind that tend to ail, but never our true Spirit Self. Ayurveda also points out that at any point if we wish to use our Spirit power, we may do so, for happy results in the realm of body and mind.

Ayurveda is called the science and art of life. And who is it that makes life possible? Whose presence sparks life in a single celled Embryo? On whose departure does life end leaving the body like an empty shell? This essential presence that orchestrates life is none other than our own Spirit, our true Self,  our core consciousness which is an individualized kernel of the ocean of collective consciousness that makes  up the entire universe.

Ayurveda remains the chosen method or medicine by which Spirits heal their own Selves. Portions of Ayurveda can be used to heal body. And then other parts can be used to heal mind. And yet another significant aspect of Ayurveda heals lost spirits by reminding them of who they really are undying Spirits and not perishable bodies;  and offers guidance to  detach from the painful identification with body and mind and soar free, liberated and eternally healthy.

Ayurveda works well for you if you have realized that the conventional approach to suppress symptoms is not enough. Ayurveda invites you to deeply look at your life and see if the causes of imbalance don't lie in the life – is it the dysfunctional relationship that is manifesting as disease in your body or is it that unethical job that is stressing you into depression? Look closely and know, says Ayurveda. Heal by reclaiming your life and your birthright to make choices.

Ayurveda is that medicine that heals life. Ayurveda is that balm that comforts emotions. Ayurveda is that tonic that invigorates enthusiasm. And Ayurveda is that elixir that challenges untimely death. And finally, Ayurveda is that wisdom that destroys the ignorance of the mind. It is this ignorance that disturbs our life quality and it is a dysfunctional life that ultimately diseases the body, slowly but surely. Ah, Wisdom, at last!
